FAQ
Frequently asked questions.
What is free?
Creating, editing and editable SVG export in Studio are free. Google sign-in includes 3 free PDF credits. When you need more, HK$29 adds 3 more credits — there is no monthly subscription.
What does each PDF credit unlock?
One print-ready PDF for that chart: project sheet, DMC materials list with how-to notes, colour overview, and tiled colour and black-and-white charts.
Is the PDF a kit?
No. It is a digital counted cross-stitch pattern. You supply fabric, floss and tools.
Can I stitch from the free SVG alone?
SVG is useful for editing and other digital workflows. For a hoop-ready counted chart with DMC key, finished sizes and tiled print pages, use the print-ready PDF.
Are the colours DMC colours?
In CT mode, Stitchplot matches chart colours to the nearest DMC colour code and shows the code in the floss key. Colour appearance can vary by display, fabric and dye lot, so use the code when buying floss.
How many colours can I use?
CT patterns use up to 10 DMC-matched colours. Fewer colours generally create a bolder chart that is faster to stitch; more colours can preserve more detail but add more colour changes. For help picking a number, see Choosing DMC colours for cross-stitch.
How is the finished size calculated?
Finished size is the stitch width or height divided by your selected fabric count. For example, a 56-stitch-wide design on 14-count Aida measures 4 inches wide. The PDF also gives a fabric cut size with your chosen margin.
How accurate is the thread estimate?
Thread use is a planning estimate based on stitch count, fabric count and the recommended number of strands. Allow a little extra for starting, ending and your stitching method; use the listed DMC code to buy the floss.
Can I edit the chart after generating it?
Yes. Edit individual stitches and thread colours in Studio, then save the revised chart to your Map Library. SVG remains free to download; a PDF export uses one account credit when your chart is final.
Where are my PDF patterns saved?
Every PDF generated while signed in is saved separately in PDF Patterns. You can download it again, reopen its original map or delete the saved PDF whenever you need.
Is this an Etsy-approved pattern?
No. Stitchplot creates a digital counted cross-stitch PDF designed to be easy to print and follow. It is not an Etsy certification or shop approval.
