How to make a counted cross-stitch pattern with Stitchplot

Stitchplot turns your photo or artwork into a counted cross-stitch chart — right in your browser, with nothing to install. Here is the path from image to a pattern you can follow.

1. Upload your artwork

Drag a PNG, JPG, WEBP or SVG file into the studio — or simply paste it from your clipboard. High-contrast artwork with clear shapes works best: logos, lettering, line art and bold illustrations all translate clearly into counted charts.

2. Choose a fabric count and chart size

Select an Aida fabric count and the number of stitches you want across your chart. The same chart is physically larger on lower-count fabric and smaller on higher-count fabric; Stitchplot calculates the finished size and fabric cut size for you.

3. Balance detail and stitch count

More stitches preserve finer detail but take longer to make. Begin with a clear subject and choose a chart size that suits your time, fabric and confidence level.

4. Choose DMC-matched colours

In CT mode, each chart colour is matched to the nearest DMC code. Use fewer colours for a bolder, quicker project, or add colours when the artwork needs more detail.

5. Refine the chart

Review the symbols, edit individual stitches or colours, and check the finished size before saving your chart. Each filled square represents one full cross stitch.

6. Export the format you need

Download an editable SVG free of charge, or unlock the print-ready PDF when your chart is final. The PDF includes colour and black & white symbol charts, a DMC floss key, stitch counts and materials guidance. Sign in to save drafts to your Library and return to them any time.
